How  to  Prepare for TNPSC Exams??

State Civil Services Exams are conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) every year for entry level recruitment appointments to various civil service posts in the state. These examinations are carried out by TNPSC as four sequential parts for recruitment into different sectors of the state of Tamil Nadu. The four exams organised by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission are TNPSC Group 1, TNPSC Group 2 & 2A, TNPSC Group 3, and TNPSC Group 4 & VAO. For each of these TNPSC exams, the posts offered are different. 1. Clear understanding of the syllabus: The TNPSC syllabus is elaborate which makes it easier to figure what is to be studied. Most of the questions in the exam come directly from the line of the syllabus.

2. Have a look at the previous year question paper: The syllabus and previous year questions, both, are the key to understanding the pulse of the TNPSC exam. It gives a clear idea about the question pattern in the examination.

3. Complete the relevant syllabus areas in TNSCERT (Samacheer) school books: TNSCERT (Samacheer) school books are a primary source from which questions are asked in the examination. Hence, it is essential to cover the relevant syllabus areas.

4. Periodic Revision is the key to success: There are multiple subjects to cover in the exam. It will be very difficult to remember what one has studied until date without revision. Therefore, revision should be a part of daily preparation.

5. Refer to other sources relevant to the syllabus: After completing the school books, you can also refer to other sources relevant to the syllabus.

6. Aim to score above the cutoff marks: We have to understand that the preliminary examination is merely the first phase and we are not aiming to score a full mark. Our aim should be to cross the cutoff marks. Thus, strengthen the subjects like Tamilnadu History, General Mental Ability, Development Administration in Tamilnadu, Indian Polity, Indian National Movement, History Culture of India, Geography 10th standard. It is certain that 75% of the questions will appear from these subjects.

7. Attempting test series improves presence of mind and accuracy: By attempting test series, we get to understand the setback in our preparation and recollect what we have studied till date. However, attempting tests are not sufficient in itself. Analysis of test series will give you a clear insight and provide scopes of improvements in your preparation. We can learn from the mistakes we have made and furthermore, be more progressive in the next tests.

8. Motivation is the secret to your hard work: It may take a year to complete the process for this examination. However, if you are not able to secure a post in the first attempt, it might take another year of your dedicated hard work. Hence, motivation, perseverance and patience is essential for this exam. Motivation should come to you from within and also, externally. Try to attend all the TNPSC exams to gain more confidence.

9. Most important aspect is current affairs: Reading the newspaper on a daily basis will keep one updated with current affairs and enable one to answer in prelims. It will also enable the aspirant to predict the questions that may appear in the mains examination. Get well-acquainted with policy making, schemes, science and technology, international relations as it will be helpful in both prelims and mains.

10. Last but not the least consistency and perseverance: It is very difficult to be consistent over a long period. Therefore, diversify your studying pattern by reading a book, watching a video lecture, leveraging your writing skills for mains, and watching a topper interview. In addition to that, don't forget to get some rest. The process for selection in each subsequent phase depends on the success of the applicant in the previous phase.
